Oklahoma Voters Support Caring for Caregivers Tax Credit

Nine out of ten voters ages 40+ in Oklahoma support the passing of the Caring for Caregivers Act, a state income tax credit designed to help family caregivers offset some of their caregiving expenses. Support for the Caring for Caregivers Act remains high across party lines, with 90% of Republicans, 91% of Independents, and 94% of Democrats expressing support. 

Nearly half (45%) of voters in Oklahoma age 40-plus have experience as a family caregiver, with 14% currently providing unpaid care to an adult loved one. Eight in ten (79%) caregivers indicated they felt emotionally stressed due to their caregiving responsibilities, and 63% of working caregivers had difficulty balancing job and family responsibilities as a result of caregiving. 

Around half of caregivers who are currently providing care spent money to purchase medical equipment, and one in four spent money to make modifications to their home or their loved one's home.

Methodology

This AARP survey of registered voters 40 years and older who reside in Oklahoma was conducted from November 11, 2022 through December 7, 2022. The data are weighted by age, gender, and geography.
